The National Brotherhood of Donns (NBD) was founded in March 1995 by four undergraduates of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma:
- Gideon Atamu
- Koko Bassey
- Eseoghene Jones
- Princewill Orukpe
These visionary young men rose against the tide of challenges that plagued Nigerian campuses at the time: drug abuse, peer oppression, human trafficking, elitism, and indifference to social realities.
At a time when middle-class privilege and the scions of wealth dominated campus culture, they envisioned an organization that would be non-conformist, bold, and dedicated to dismantling societal decadence.
To break the barriers of tribalism and nepotism, they pioneered the tradition of adopting donnist names—unique identifiers without ethnic or national bias—ensuring unity through shared brotherhood, not divided heritage.
